Northal Studio / Services

Whatever it needs,
done well.

Whether it’s a site that brings the work in, a brand that fits, or the software behind it, I build it properly and you deal with me start to finish. One fixed price, one fixed scope, agreed before I start.

A template costs less. It also comes with someone else’s code, someone else’s limits, and a subscription that never ends. What you’re paying for here is a site built to fit your business specifically, hand-coded, that you own outright the day it’s finished. And a studio of one, so the person quoting the price is the person doing the work.

What I build

Services, in detail.

Guide prices below, where each job starts. The fixed fee is sent by email after a free call, and it’s the price you pay start to finish.

Web design & build.

From £1,5003–6 weeks

Strategy through to ship. I design and build myself, so what you approve is what gets built, not something reinterpreted by whoever picks it up next. The site that lands is the one you signed off, with a month of ongoing care after launch.

Included
  • Strategy & sitemap workshop
  • Bespoke design, yours to keep
  • Hand-coded, fast, accessible build
  • Page copy, written in place
  • A CMS you can edit yourself
  • A month of post-launch care

Brand identity.

From £1,2003–6 weeks

Marks, systems and the small details that turn a name into a reputation. Built to work in print, in code, on screen.

Included
  • Primary logo + variations
  • Type & colour system
  • A short, usable guidelines doc
  • Print- and screen-ready files

Custom web apps.

From £5,0006–12 weeks

When an off-the-shelf site won't do: logins, dashboards, databases, the machinery behind the front door. Built to the same standard as the pages you can see.

Included
  • Secure accounts & user roles
  • A custom database & admin tools
  • Booking, portal or workflow systems
  • Built on a modern, maintainable stack

Copy & voice.

From £6001–3 weeks

Included
  • Tone-of-voice direction
  • Page-by-page site copy
  • Launch & email copy
  • Written in place, not bolted on

SEO audit.

  • A written report, in plain English

A starter site.

Not a claim, a real build: Floralibus, a York florist with no shopfront to photograph, ships at 95 out of 100 on a phone and was built around her business, not squeezed into a template.

Beyond the core

Need something
off the list?

These core offers cover most jobs, but businesses aren’t templates, and neither is the work. An online shop, a booking system, a members’ area: whatever the job calls for, I adapt to it. And if something sits outside what the studio should take on, I’ll say so plainly rather than bluff it.

  • E-commerce & online shops
  • Booking & enquiry systems
  • Content-managed sites
  • Hosting, domains & care plans
How it runs

Five steps,
about seven weeks.

ListenA conversation, a walk, the brief. One hour, no obligation.
ShapeStrategy, voice, sitemap, first directions. Fewer options, better considered.
MakeDesign + build in lockstep. Weekly reviews. Copy written where it lives.
ShipClean handover, training, launch plan. Indexed, monitored, ready.
TendA month of post-launch care included. Small fixes, first metrics, then a clean exit or an ongoing care plan.
After launch

Your site doesn't need me.

That’s the point of building it properly. There’s no plugin stack quietly rotting, and nothing that falls over if you stop paying someone. You own the code and the words. Cancel any time and the site carries on. You just lose me.

Care

From £45/mo

Left alone, a website quietly slips: slower, out of date, a little less safe, and you're usually the last to notice. This keeps yours fast, patched and online.

  • Hosting, domain, SSL, backups
  • Uptime monitoring
  • Software kept patched, and watched for anything trying the doors
  • Small changes when you need them, up to half an hour a month
  • A check-in when there's something worth telling you: how fast it is, who's visiting, what they searched for

Growth

From £350/mo

Care keeps the site healthy. Growth makes it work harder: more of the right visitors, more enquiries, fewer people leaving without asking.

  • Local search: the towns you actually want work from
  • New pages, new words, as the business moves
  • Conversion work: fewer people leaving without asking
  • A monthly look at what's genuinely bringing the work in

No lock-in, no notice period, and no maintenance invoice for a website that isn't broken.

Common questions.

Web design & build

How much does a project cost?

Each service shows a guide “from” price, so you can see roughly where things start before you get in touch: a website from £1,500, brand identity from £1,200, a web app from £5,000. Those are starting points, not a package price — where your project lands depends on how many pages, whether it needs logins or a shop, and how much of the writing and design is on me. The exact figure comes after the first call, once I know what the work involves. That call is free, with no obligation, and you'll get one fixed quote before anything starts, not a meter that runs.

Can I update the site myself after it's live?

Yes. A web design & build project ships with a CMS. Log in, edit text and images, no developer needed for day-to-day changes. (A one-page starter site is the exception: no admin panel, changes come to me instead.)

What if I already have a website?

Redesigns are handled the same way as new builds: same process, same fixed scope, same ownership at the end.

What's not included?

Anything outside the agreed scope: extra pages, new features, design rounds beyond the two included. All quoted separately before it starts, so there's no surprise on the invoice.

What happens after launch?

A month of care is included in every build. After that, it's your site to keep, with or without an ongoing plan.

Custom web apps

What counts as a "custom web app" vs a normal site?

Anything with logins, a database, or logic behind the pages: booking systems, portals, dashboards. If the site needs to remember things about different users, it's a web app.

How is this priced differently to a normal build?

It's scoped the same way, properly, on the first call. It costs more because the work behind the pages is the hard part, not the pages themselves, but the price still comes from the scope, not a bigger sticker.

Who owns the finished system?

You do, outright, on final payment: the code, the database structure, all of it.

SEO audit

Is there any obligation to take on the fix-list work afterwards?

None. The audit stands alone: a written report and a prioritised list, yours to act on however you like.

How long does it take?

About a week, start to report.

What's actually in the report?

A technical and on-page review, a local search check, and a plain-English list of what to fix first, not just a score.

Ready to start?

Tell me a little about the project. Every message comes straight to me, and I reply within 48 hours.
